CHAS Case Study

Avalon Abseiling Ltd

Avalon Abseiling Ltd have been registered contractors with CHAS since 2015.

Avalon Abseiling Ltd has been trading since 1996 as a sole trader, building a considerable reputation and gaining significant experience in undertaking work in challenging environments.

To meet increasing business expansion the business was incorporated as a private limited company in October 2003.

Avalon Abseiling Limited are specialists in ‘alternative rope access methods’ to provide a cost-efficient alternative to costly scaffolding.

They use technicians trained and experienced in many different skills to provide a comprehensive service ranging from the smallest repair jobs through to complete exterior refurbishment of entire blocks. Although they specialise in rope access, their experience using hydraulic lifts/hoists and scaffold ensures the most appropriate access method for the task is employed.

Lorraine Furbank, Business Support Manager commented:

“We chose CHAS as it is recognised as a leading Health and Safety Accreditation Scheme. Many of our clients insist on their suppliers and sub-contractors being ‘CHAS Accredited’ before they contract with them.

Being a CHAS accredited contractor shows our potential buyers that we are compliant with the highest standards of safety and it gives them peace of mind that when it comes to the various health and safety laws they are in the right hands.

At the same time, when we achieve CHAS compliance this gives us the approval to work for any of the CHAS accredited buyers. As a recognised standard, any organisations looking for a contractor will be aware that a CHAS accredited contractor will meet their expectations, in respect of all the appropriate Health and Safety Laws, giving them peace of mind over their choice.

In addition, CHAS opens up many more business opportunities in the form of advertising, which includes the use of the CHAS logo on both paperwork and websites; this also offers us the opportunity to be added to the publicly searchable database of CHAS accredited members, potentially creating opportunities for bigger and better contracts with other members.

Since CHAS introduced a new Common Assessment Standard that streamlines the accreditation process and makes it easier for clients to determine compliance across their entire supply chain, we have taken the opportunity to upgrade to gain the benefits of this service. This has enabled us to secure significant business with a key client and are confident this will open up opportunities form a wider client base.

The help and support provided by the Customer Service Team at CHAS is second to none and I am always confident that my questions or requests will be understood and dealt with promptly and efficiently with the team taking ownership until a resolution is reached.”
