Welcome to the Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS).
We are dedicated to completing health and safety pre-qualification assessments
to a nationally recognised and accepted threshold standard
John Drewett - Concrete Repairs
We first achieved our CHAS accreditation in 1998 and have found it very useful as a means of demonstrating
that we comply with current health & safety law in the construction industry. CHAS is recognised across the
whole of our industry so it reduces the amount of time and resources needed to pre-qualify for projects.

The fastest growing Health and Safety assessment scheme in the UK
With 570 buyer members and over 50,000 suppliers on its database,
CHAS is not only the largest but also the fastest growing
health and safety assessment scheme in the UK.
CHAS is established as the market leader for health and safety pre-qualification in the UK. It is available to suppliers
(those who provide goods and services) and to organisations (buyers) looking for suitably competent suppliers.
CHAS is a founder member and past Chair of Safety Schemes
in Procurement – Competence Forum or SSIP.
Please go to www.ssip.org.uk or click here for full details.
CHAS isn’t just for construction companies, it assesses health and
safety for all types of suppliers, from care services to demolition contractors, designers and consultants. The aim of the scheme is to save time and resources by avoiding unnecessary duplication in the first stage of competence assessment; the CDM Core criteria.
Membership includes the public sectors: health trusts, emergency services and government departments and large private companies who have a supply chain, for example Royal Mail Group, Kier and Mitie Group. Ultimately we complete the initial H&S application process for buyers,
saving time and resources for all involved in the process.
If you think you may be eligible please complete the
request for buyer access form. A member of the CHAS team will make contact within three working days.
Our scheme fully reflectss the stage
one requirements of assessing competence under CDM 2007
