Important information regarding changes to the duties under the CDM Regulations
As you will be aware the CDM 2007 regulations will be superseded by the CDM 2015 Regulations on the 06 April 2015.
Under the new Regulations the CDM-Coordinator role will disappear and a new role of Principal Designer will come into existence on 06 April 2015.
CHAS will no longer be offering a CDM-Coordinator assessment.
CHAS will be assessing the new role of Principal Designer.
The new CHAS Principal Designer assessment criteria and question set will be finalised shortly and we will notify clients as soon as this is ready.
A company will be able to apply as a Principal Designer when their next assessment is due or can apply earlier if they wish.
Note: there will be no change to other assessments offered by CHAS.
Grace period under the Regulations:
If you are already employed as a CDM-Coordinator on a project BEFORE 06 April 2015, you will be able to continue in this role until 06 October 2015.
There is no plan currently to remove historic CDM-C records from our database.

The fastest growing Health and Safety assessment scheme in the UK
With 670 buyer members and over 60,000 suppliers on its database,
CHAS is not only the largest but also the fastest growing
health and safety assessment scheme in the UK.
CHAS is established as the market leader for health and safety pre-qualification in the UK. It is available to suppliers
(those who provide goods and services) and to organisations (buyers) looking for suitably competent suppliers.
CHAS is a founder member and past Chair of Safety Schemes
in Procurement – Competence Forum or SSIP.
Please go to www.ssip.org.uk or click here for full details.
CHAS isn’t just for construction companies, it assesses health and
safety for all types of suppliers, from care services to demolition contractors, designers and consultants. The aim of the scheme is to save time and resources by avoiding unnecessary duplication in the first stage of competence assessment; the CDM Core criteria.
Membership includes the public sectors: health trusts, emergency services and government departments and large private companies who have a supply chain, for example Royal Mail Group, Kier and Mitie Group. Ultimately we complete the initial H&S application process for buyers,
saving time and resources for all involved in the process.
If you think you may be eligible please complete the
request for buyer access form. A member of the CHAS team will make contact within three working days.
CHAS will be exhibiting/attending the following events.
