Services for the Construction Industry

With health and safety legislation continually changing and the penalties for non-compliance greater than ever, construction contractors are turning to trusted advisors like CHAS to provide them with a simple, streamlined accreditation process.

CHAS is a founder member of SSIP (Safety Schemes in Procurement) and an authority on health and safety accreditation in the construction industry. We set industry benchmarks for contractors, and, with our Common Assessment Standard, provide assurance and reassurance to clients and offer contractors a cost-effective way to easily manage their compliance status and complete standardised pre-qualification questionnaires online.

Services for the Social Care Industry

CHAS offers a national Social Care Services (SCS) accreditation programme that is standardised for all continuing care, mental care and infant, elderly and community care service providers.

This allows clients to quickly and easily ascertain compliance, makes the accreditation process simpler for care providers and allows supply chain management processes to be streamlined effectively.

The Social Care Services accreditation programme is applied using the same principals that have underpinned CHAS health and safety certification for the past 20 years. By providing the scheme, CHAS aims to improve the quality and consistency of service provision within social care.

The CHAS Common Assessment Standard

Working in collaboration with Build UK, the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) and other accreditation bodies, CHAS has introduced a new Common Assessment Standard that streamlines the accreditation process and makes it easier for clients to determine compliance across their entire supply chain.

Contractors simply provide one set of information annually to gain re-accreditation, answering standardised questions based on existing good practice and areas covered under PAS91.

Clients can require that contractors gain accreditation under one of four packages based on project requirements. The Premier package covers all 12 modules available, comprising Health and Safety, Identity, Financial and Business Standing, Corporate and Professional Standing, Environmental, Quality Management, Equal Opportunities and Diversity, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Information Security and GDPR, Building Information Modelling, Anti-Bribery and Corruption, and Modern Slavery.

Van Compliance Scheme

Van Compliance Scheme (VCS)

Driving a van for work purposes is statistically proven to be one of the riskiest activities of any worker. CHAS has teamed up with the Freight Transport Association’s Van Excellence programme to develop a comprehensive Van Compliance Scheme (VCS) that safeguards organisations against prosecution or penalty under health and safety legislation.

The VCS accreditation scheme draws on Van Excellence’s expertise to provide verification that operators have the correct processes in place to run their vans in a safe and legal manner.

Our standardised accreditation questionnaire covers a wide range of areas, including the driver, the vehicle, safe working practices, record keeping and record retention. Through this thorough approach to vetting, we ensure that drivers and are meeting their responsibilities to their employees, clients and other road users. It also provides an ideal stepping stone for businesses aspiring to full Van Excellence accreditation.
