CHAS Members Have Helped Raised Money For An Environmental Charity
CHAS has raised over £6,500 in cash donations to help fund Sustainable Merton, a community-based environmental charity in London.
Over the last twelve months, more than 5,000 CHAS members successfully raised and donated a sum of money that will help the charity continue its excellent work.
Regular donations received from generous, community-minded businesses such as CHAS makes an enormous difference to our small, but ambitious, charity. This ongoing, unrestricted financial support offers greater flexibility and helps us undertake important climate and behavioural change activity that isn’t grant funded.
— Diana Sterck, Sustainable Merton CEO
The current climate crisis is one of the biggest threats to our planet that we have ever faced. At such a critical time, we need to pull together and understand the challenges so we can all act now.
Sustainable Merton has been inspiring sustainable practices in the Merton community since 2007. Volunteers, dedicated residents and charity employees work together on projects like Merton’s Community Fridge, designed to alleviate food waste and food insecurity in the community. Sustainable Merton has provided 64,000 meals to those in need since 2020.
Sustainable Merton focuses its efforts on four main priority areas:
- Waste
- Air Quality
- Energy
- Food.
CHAS has partnered with Sustainable Merton to help make a more sustainable community, and now CHAS members can help too.
How CHAS Members Can Support Sustainable Merton
An important part of CHAS’s work involves helping businesses demonstrate how they are meeting their obligations towards the planet and society through our environmental and corporate social responsibility accreditation schemes. Naturally, this means we are committed to ensuring our own organisation strives to have a positive impact.
— Ian McKinnon, CHAS Managing Director
CHAS is encouraging our members to make a real difference to their environmental impact, and it couldn’t be easier. When you commence your CHAS accreditation application, we will ask if you require a hard copy of your certificate, CHAS van stickers or neither.
If you select a part pack or are happy not to receive any physical document, CHAS will make a £1 or £2 donation* to Sustainable Merton on your behalf. We will still send you an electronic version of your accreditation certificate, whichever choice you make.
In the last 12 months, CHAS has contributed more than £6,500 to Sustainable Merton in place of donations made by our members who no longer require physical documents.
*If you request a part pack (just stickers or a certificate), we will donate £1 to Sustainable Merton. If you request no physical documentation, we will donate £2 to Sustainable Merton.
About Sustainable Merton
Merton’s local environmental charity has been making a difference in sustainable living in Merton since 2007. It works with residents, partners and businesses to inspire, engage and influence local people to tackle environmental issues.
CHAS has always had close ties to the London Borough of Merton, so partnering with Sustainable Merton was a logical choice. From tackling energy waste to taking action to improve air quality and reduce emissions, Sustainable Merton aims to influence the changes that will make the borough a healthier, happier and more sustainable community, now and for future generations to come.
As well as Merton’s Community Fridge, which has helped reduce food waste and contributed 64,000 meals to those in need in the local area, Sustainable Merton has worked on projects like Growing Spaces.
Growing Spaces addresses food poverty in Merton by helping residents of all ages access, grow and cook fresh and nutritious food. The project facilitates community gardening by maximising the use of growing spaces, which allows locals to learn more about the food, develop new skills, and improve their health and well-being.
At a time when the cost of living is spiralling, it’s heartening for both CHAS and our customers to hear about the positive impact our donations are having on the lives of local people.
— Ian McKinnon, CHAS Managing Director
